Having played Dwarf Fortress for some years on and off, I have to admit I have gotten farther in less time than in all those years. The new interface is so easy to navigate and figure out (still needed to check the wiki a bunch, but haven't needed to install 3rd party support programs just to manage my Dwarves). I'm at about 100 Dwarves now and have successfully traded a few times (something that used to frustrate me). Definitely addictive.
