A new mountain bike of similar quality to my 2002 Giant is about $1,400 so this year I opted to just upgrade those components that that were making me unhappy with my current ride instead. A new Shimano XTR High Rise derailleur, 9 gear rear cassette, and new chain (already replaced the cable at the end of last summer) makes this thing ride better than new, and for under $300.
