Armed Services Day

Today is Armed Services Day. I try to put out the flag only on special occassions in an attempt to give the act a little more signifigance. Today I put it out in recognition of all those members of the armed services who have served this great nation and to recognize those who are currently in harms way. A history of the creation of Armed Services Day can be found here. In summary, it was basically a creation of the Truman administration (1945-1953) and amounted to a consolidation of the separate celebratory days for the various arms of the military.
Proper care and feeding of your flag is here courtesy of the Boy Scouts.
Check out foundingfathers.info (where I picked up the image of the Gadsen Flag above) for more American Flag history.

How many of you recognize this flag?
