First Members Only story!

SiteNews

I have decided to begin posting some stories for ‘members only’ which only means that you will not see them unless you are "logged in" to the site. If you visit the site as a ‘guest’ and do not log in, there will be no indication that the story exists. If you are a member of a ‘Group’ on the site (there are currently two), the possibility exists to publish stories that only members of that particular group can view. I have been using this at work on our intranet for awhile and it seems to work well. Accounting doesn’t see Purchasing posts, for instance. This allows for a whole blog within a blog experience! Its not much of an issue yet, but as the site has gained alot of members recently, i see the possiblity of private posts becoming more desireable for some purposes.

[update Dec 31, 2007]: This site is no longer running Geeklog, and so, while I can post stories with a ‘Post Password’ to keep them hidden from anyone who does not have the password, I can no longer completely hide their existence. I don’t like the ‘Post password’ feature, and I may just remove these stories someday.
