Myspace Add Comment Idiocy

Computer

Go to your profile. Scroll down to the bottom of the ‘Comments’ section. There’s an ‘add comment’ link! Click it. You can’t add a comment because you are not a friend. Um, excuse me? I am not my own friend? This isn’t a ‘new’ feature that doesn’t work, this is the way the site ‘works’. It’s just one of the more obvious indications that no-one running myspace gives too much of a crap how it works or if it does, just that you see the requisite number of ads. Removing this link from everyone’s profile page would take a programmer all of about 5 minutes, but it’s been that way for years.

I’ve been investigating the history of the creation of MySpace (which was *not* conceived by Tom as a “place for friends” - that was a BS marketing ploy) and apparently the site was created by a bunch of spammers with corporate backing and the code was written in 10 days! Not too much of a surprise then, that the site is so painful to navigate and riddled with inconsistencies and stupid links that do nothing.
