Myspace Censorship?

Computer

When you are using a free service, you can’t expect that you will have complete freedom to write whatever you want I guess. But mix the company that owns FOX News (and myspace) with any form of censorship and you get - class action lawsuit! If you haven’t heard about this, you can test it by trying to blog or post a comment on myspace with the following URL in it: v-i-d-i-l-i-f-e-dot-c-o-m (Obviously?, without the dashes) or s-t-i-c-k-a-m-dot-c-o-m. These are services that offer similar ’social networking’ features to myspace, and myspace doesn’t want to promote their competition on their own dime. I’m actually on Myspace’s side on this one - if you want to own all of your own content, and you want complete (within the law) freedom of speech, don’t use Myspace. Other options might be a Typepad [link to wikipedia] account, or a personal blog on Livejournal [link to wikipedia] both of which are services aimed at non-technical users. Though I don’t know if I trust Google much more than myspace, their Blogger service offers a zillion ways to publish to the web and syndicate your site which are all impressive. One blog engine I’ve always been impressed by is Word Press which can be installed on your own domain, or used for free on their servers. You might argue that these are all blogs proper and are not ’social networking’ services like Myspace. I’d argue that as people grow up, they tend to want more control over their own life, and this philiosophy translates to their ‘online life’ pretty well.
