MySpace Rules

Computer

No, don’t let the subject line fool you. I still despise Myspace. These are my little MySpace rulez:

1. Use Firefox, not Internet Explorer (not even IE7)
2. Do not store your password for myspace in firefox. If you have, remove it [Firefox | Preferences | Security | Show Passwords]
3. Install the NoScript add-on it will completely change the way you interact with the web, forcing you to choose which scripts run and blocking everything else, but it does make you think first. You can also block all Flash which is cool.

4. Disallow myspace.com in NoScript, and check it once in a while to make sure it’s still disallowed (you will be temporarily allowing it when logged in to your own page and then ‘Forbid’-ing it again when you leave your page if you’re smart)
5. When you do have to sign in to view/ edit stuff, make sure you don’t click ‘Remember Me’ checkbox!
6. Don’t blithely click on ‘New Cool People’ - they are neither.
7. Don’t accept new friends unless you actually know they are cool and not actually just a virus laden site run by a phisher looking for your password so they can try to log in with it on Citibank and transfer your money to their e-gold account offshore.
8. Personal rule - One comment per friend. Make sure your new comment is better than the existing one and it will get posted.
9. I was hijacked by the myspace virus too - once.
10. Go check out another site like Bebo instead - Myspace Sucks.
11. Personal Rule #2 - I set my page so that all comments have to be approved first - don’t get pissed if your comment doesn’t make the list - in8sworld has very high standards and you can be content in the knowledge that I will still have read it.
