First Cold of 14?

Journal

Emily had her first day of preschool last week Monday and she was sick by Tuesday night. One by one we fell victim until Friday about mid-day I too succumed. I spent Saturday and Sunday coughing, sneezing and whining about how I couldn’t get anything done while Cathy did everything.Unfortunately, Emily and Erin by Saturday were feeling pretty much fine and neither wanted to let daddy rest. I managed to sit almost upright in front of the TV most of the weekend and I think I am now (11pm) finally better! Great, just in time for work. Cathy found a disturbing statistic: that kids generally get between 12 and 14 colds a year at school and parents end up getting 8 to 10 of them. I don’t think I will survive 9 more colds this year. Arrrgghh.

On the up side, if there is one, kids that exoposed to daycare/preschool diseases young miss much less school later in life due to illness.

\"Kids in daycare during the preschool years will get fewer colds at age 6-11 than their counterparts who do not attend preschool. The dayschool kids had one-third less colds during the grade school years.\"

Sophia used to have nasty colds all of the time and now she is much more bullet-proof. The way I see it, she can get sick now or get sick later. I pick now. She has had so many colds that she has built up a fairly impressive immune response to them.

Yeah, I’ve read about that. Not heartening since Emily hasn’t
been in day care. I suppose it only makes sense that our self

also immunosuperior so they can more easily pummel and bully
their hapless victims once they’ve been sufficiently weakened by
    the cold of the week.

We\’re officially on number two now. I got up twice during the night,
once to give a sponge bath and change sheets, and I\’m feeling on
the edge myself. Poor thing coughing so much she threw up a couple
times yesterday. I\’m definitely scheduling a flu shot this year, man.

Emily and Erin both had a slew of shots (required for school next year
for Emily) and she has minor cases of basically everything. I don\’t think
this counts toward the 14 which is a bummer since I didn\’t catch
    anything this time (yet?).

From your description of it, it sounded pretty serious. When Sophia gets a cold she is basically herself but uses a box of tissues a day. Sometimes she sneezes and creates \"snot fangs\" that bounce gleefully far past her chin.

    Man I miss her. ;)
