9 tons of fireworks impounded

News

According the Newsday
, Nitro, a bomb-sniffing dog nosed out 9 tons of explosives at a routine safety inspection stop on Sunrise Highway in Copaige earlier in the week. The truck was carrying explosives equivalent to a 500 pound bomb. Had the vehicle been in an accident and ignited the cargo, it could have exploded and done damage up to a quarter mile away. The fireworks were all manufactured in China so the bust should really please Grucci, the local fireworks manufacturer who routinely sets off his bombs in the woods nearby, shaking the house and causing a rash of worried 911 calls from people for miles around hearing explosions. We’re not worried, even though they had to move out of their Bellport factories some years ago after blowing up several houses in that neighborhood.
