The Hunt for Gollum

I know there are several LotR fans out here, but I don’t know if you’ve all heard about this fan flick: The Hunt for Gollum is a “fan film” (a video or movie made by technically adept fans using high end PCs and camera equipment without any money from an established production house).

I’ve been interested in these kinds of productions for a long time. The line between amateur and professional is getting more blurry as talented reg’lar folks find it possible to afford production quality equipment. Star Trek fan films like New Voyages (now Star Trek: Phase II) and Starship Exeter are near TV quality serials in the Star Trek genre filmed and produced entirely by fans of the series. I’m not passing any judgment on this effort here but it’s great to see a production of LotR made entirely by fans.

    Michelle may like this link, she’s a LOTR fanatic. I love that small time production crews are putting together wonderfully entertaining YouTube movies, virally spreading throughout the globe.
