Pink Floyd :: Classic Album DVD
I picked up the 2003 "Classic Albums" DVD release of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. This is an 84 minute interview with the band, going over the creation of the 1973 album which has proven to be one of the most classic Rock albums of all time. The DVD which is described in more depth at Amazon is a wonderful look at how the album was made. The real "nuts and bolts" of it’s creation as told by the people involved, not a VH1 gossip column, this. The DVD provides exclusive video footage of Dave, Roger and Rick performing some of the tunes in the studio last year discussing and illustrating how the various parts of the songs went together. There are discussions of the time signature changes, where certain tunes were written, etc. and lots of great reflections on the success of the band. Their engineer sits at the board and flips off certain tracks so you can hear each part better as they talk about it, really cool.

My favourite part is where Roger describes how they got the voices on the album, what they were saying (in context) and who the people were saying the stuff. "When was the last time you were violent?" was one question he had asked.

I am hoping to offer this movie as a second feature during my planned outdoor screening of Pink Floyd at Pompeii - Director’s Cut (still in the planning stages, but no firm date yet). If any of you who are interested in attending have a prefferred weekend, let me know! I haven’t even started to paint the screen yet.
